On the 1-st of November, 2016 Cambridge English November Seminar for the teachers was held in Kharkiv. T.I. Kamenyuk, the English teacher of Gymnasia was present at this event. Here is the information she shared about the attendance of the seminar.
Cambridge English is the most valuable English qualifications in the world. The moto of the seminar is «Think confidence in teaching, joy in learning». English is the gateway to the world. 1,8 billion people in the world speak English: 375 million of them are native speakers. That’s about 1 in every 4 of us.
The fist reporter wasJoanna Kosta is the co-author of levels 1, 2 and 3 of a brand-new seven-level course for schools, Cambridge English Prepare! She has taught English in both Europe and Asia. She spoke about ten easy ways to build exam confidence.
Although students preparing for exams are likely to feel anxious at times, too much stress is a bad thing and prevents progress. The key to avoiding unnecessary exam stress, for both teachers and students, is adequate preparation, but again, too much straight exam practice can be a bad thing. In this talk, Joanna looked at a variety of ways of building confidence and maximizing chances of success.
Chris Reese is an ESL Teacher working at International Language Centre – Kiev. He reported to the listeners “Isn’t grammar enough? What’s ‘communicative purpose’?:Preparing students for FCE Writing.” He spoke about differences between “conventional” language and writing instruction and the way the exam is evaluated, focusing on “organization” and “communicative purpose” assessment criteria. The seminar also aims at providing teachers with concrete strategies and methods of preparing students to meet these criteria.
